Animating Height Quickly?

I have been working on a menu that unveils itself by stretching out the menu button to the nav height and width. It has been working flawlessly over my laptop but lags on my phone.

 

Is there a way to make this smoother? Or am I animating too many elements at a click? I have attached a CodePen Demo.

I didn't notice any obvious issues that'd cause performance problems. Some mobile devices just can't handle much in terms of graphics/animation. Browsers continue to make progress performance-wise, but ultimately it may depend on the CPU/GPU power of the device you're on. I wish I had a super easy solution for you other than maybe trying to shift to using canvas (which has its own challenges, of course).

Try on old phone (512 RAM, 800MHz processor, Android 2.3.3)  with Opera Mini - working good (sandwich icon not on center of a circle, but its Opera Mini)
