  1. While that is an interesting point-of-view, I wanted to share my own opinions about it. You have left out one significant licensing and bussiness model, Multi-licensing. Many products succeeded on releasing the main library on usually LGPL (which, while allows use in proprietary software, requires changes to the product itself to be published under either LGPL or GPL), and also providing a paid, commercial version for bussiness use. One of the products with this kind of licensing is Qt, which I use A LOT, and I am fine with the LGPL licensing. You also left out donation-based funding, which is also a significant solution for open source projects. Anyways, you could have had luck with dual-licensing. But this is just my opinion.
