Any reason to use XMLLoader for generic XML?

If that's all you're loading, no, there's not much advantage. If, however, you're loading more than XML then it makes a lot of sense to use LoaderMax because it can manage the queue for you and report progress as a whole for all your stuff. Plus it pulls all the events together in a more cohesive way (most events bubble up through the hierarchy). It's not a big concern for XML, but for other types of loaders, there are various bugs and inconsistencies in Adobe's classes which LoaderMax works around (these are listed at http://www.greensock.com/loadermax/#bugs).
