How to "smooth" pinning with Scroll Trigger?

When an element gets pinned, it hits a wall and goes from 100 to 0 in an instant which doesn't feel very good.  I was wondering if there is a way to "smooth" it so it pins gradually.

I have been on this https://front.artelelectronics.com/ website where every section is pinned. It works well, just the way it gets pinned is without any transition.

I am not positing a codepen demo because it is a standard ScrollTrigger with a "pin:true" setting.

Without a minimal demo, it's very difficult to troubleshoot; the issue could be caused by CSS, markup, a third party library, a 3rd party script, etc. Would you please provide a very simple CodePen or Stackblitz that illustrates the issue? We can't debug a live website, there is just no way to modify or even view the code.

Please don't include your whole project. Just some colored <div> elements and the GSAP code is best. See if you can recreate the issue with as few dependancies as possible. Start minimal and then incrementally add code bit by bit until it breaks. Usually people solve their own issues during this process! If not, at least we have a reduced test case which greatly increases your chances of getting a relevant answer.

See the Pen aYYOdN by GreenSock (@GreenSock) on CodePen

that loads all the plugins. Just click "fork" at the bottom right and make your minimal demo

Using a framework/library like React, Vue, Next, etc.?

CodePen isn't always ideal for these tools, so here are some Stackblitz starter templates that you can fork and import the gsap-trial NPM package for using any of the bonus plugins:

Please share the StackBlitz link directly to the file in question (where you've put the GSAP code) so we don't need to hunt through all the files.

Once we see an isolated demo, we'll do our best to jump in and help with your GSAP-specific questions.

You can do smooth scrolling by using ScrollSmoother, of course, but if you're asking to have ScrollTrigger somehow gradually pin something, no, that isn't logically possible. An element is either pinned or not, there's no partial pinning or inbetween state. Sorry. Maybe you could kinda fake something by pinning its parent early, and animating the "y", but that'd be tricky to handle naturally. You'd probably need InertiaPlugin to do something like that so it's tracking the velocity and naturally continuing the motion to land at a certain spot. It's way beyond the kind of free help you can get in these forums, but hopefully that gives you a nudge in the right direction. We do offer paid consulting services if you need extra help like that.

Good luck!
